The day begins with the excitement of chimpanzee tracking. Guided by experienced rangers, you will venture into the deep rainforest of Kibale in search of the chimps. The moment you see them swinging through trees, grooming themselves, or foraging for food, you will wonder why they are called our closest relatives. The trek also serves as an opportunity to spot other primate species like red colobus monkeys and grey-cheeked mangabeys.
Drive southwards into Queen Elizabeth National Park after lunch. The park is very renowned for its outstanding biodiversity and scenic splendor, from savannah plains, crater lakes to volcanic features. During the evening, you may set off on a brief game drive before being checked into your lodge.
Accommodation: Mweya Safari Lodge/Enganzi Game Lodge/Pumba Safari Cottages.
Day 4: Game Drives and Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Start the day with a dawn game drive in Kasenyi plains, where lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes are out in the open. The crisp air, with the golden glows of the morning, makes it special.
A boat cruise is scheduled for the afternoon along the Kazinga Channel, which acts as a link between Lake Edward and Lake George. Here, one can observe hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a fabulous variety of birds. By bringing you close to wildlife sightings, it is an excellent opportunity for photography. Return to the lodge for dinner under the African skies.
Accommodation options: Mweya Safari Lodge / Enganzi Game Lodge / Pumba Safari Cottages.
Day 5: Ishasha Game Drive – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today, the safari takes you to the southern section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ishasha, famous for its tree-climbing lions. If fortunate, you will see the magnificent animals just lazily sitting on the branches of fig trees, an idiosyncratic behavior for that area. Spend some hours driving beautiful scenery to get to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a site declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and harboring more than half of the mountain gorillas left in the wild.
Arrive at the lodge, either within the forest or enjoying the serenity close to it, to share the build-up excitement for the gorilla trekking that awaits you the next day.
Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge / Gorilla Mist Camp / Ride 4 a Woman Guesthouse.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Return to Entebbe
Today is the pinnacle of your safari: gorilla trekking in Bwindi! Depart early-time keeping in mind your belly empty, park rangers will conduct a briefing before setting off into the thick jungle. The trek lasts between 2 and 6 hours, depending on where the gorilla family is located, but it is worth every second. That giant silverback standing just a few metres away while baby gorillas frolic is probably one of the privileges that life offers.
Lunch will be had after the gorilla trek at the lodge, from where you will depart to Entebbe or Kampala in the evening. Depending on your onward arrangements, you may spend the night in Entebbe or proceed to your outbound flight.
A 6 day Uganda Safari is more than a mere holiday.
It is one spiritual and emotional journey into the heart of Africa. From the savannahs abounding with wildlife and the rainforest calling with the cries of primates in the distance, Uganda gives you a safari different from any other.
