Day 4: John Matte – Bujuku Hut (3,962m) Negotiates Lower Bigo Bog wooden walkways and Ultimate Bigo Bog. Gaze upon massive lobelias and groundsels. Onwards to Bujuku Hut on the shores of Lake Bujuku surrounded by towering summits of Mount Baker and Mount Speke. Day 5: Bujuku – Elena Hut (4,541m) This ascent today is a bit tougher. Climb through the steep slopes of Upper Bigo Bog and get into the alpine zone of moss and rocks. As you approach Elena Hut, the base camp for Margherita, the air begins to thin. Dinner and overnight at Elena Hut. Day 6: Summit Marghertta Peak (5,109m) – Kitandara Hut (4,023m) Start just before dawn for the summit attempt. Cross Stanley Glacier and with ropes and crampons on, finish the final push to Margherita Peak. Being on top of Africa’s third highest peak is a moment of glory and one can enjoy vast views of Congo and Uganda. Descend to Kitandara Hut for overnight comfort. Total trekking time: 8-10 hours. Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe–The Gateway to the Pearl of Africa Your journey will begin with you arriving at Entebbe International Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. An option is presented to take a stroll through the botanical gardens in Entebbe or visit the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest freshwater lake in Africa, depending on your time of arrival. An overnight stay in a comfortable hotel in Entebbe sets the mood for the week. Day 2: Entebbe – Kibale National Park (The Primate Capital of the World) After having breakfast, set off on a scenic drive leading to Kibale National Park, which is alternatively known as the Primate Capital of the World. The route takes you through tea plantations, hills, and crater lakes. Reach in the afternoon for check-in and some rest. You also have the option to choose a cultural walk to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, which is well known for birds and primates. Highlight: Getting a glimpse of the primate-rich landscapes of Uganda for the first time. Accommodation: Primate Lodge Kibale or Chimpanzee Forest Guest House. Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park This is the guest’s first close encounter with primates. After a meeting at the park headquarters, proceed with your seasoned rangers to the chimpanzee trekking experience. The trek through Kibale’s tropical rain forest offers many sights and sounds: monkeys swinging on tree tops, birds calling, and butterflies dancing in sunlight. When a troop is sighted, spend up to an hour observing their mesmerizing social behaviors. Lunch is followed by a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through the foothills of the Rwenzoris. A game drive in the evening along the park gives you a glimpse of elephants, antelopes, and perhaps lions. Day 4: Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park-Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise This lovely song of birds accompanies our morning preparation for a game drive on the Kasenyi Plains. Whether it is Uganda kob, buffalo, elephants, lions, or hyenas you want to see, it’s all there for you. The beautiful rolling savannah lies in the backdrop of the Rwenzoris.
