Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali-Nyungwe National Park & Canopy Walk

Early in the morning, travelers are whisked away from Kigali in a scenic drive up to Nyungwe National Park. Maintaining the essence of Rwandan scenery along the way, one drives through gentle rollers, tea plantations, and quaint villages. On the way, there is the possibility of stopping over at the King’s Palace Museum at Nyanza or the National Museum at Huye (Butare), which give an appealing insight into the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda.

Arrive at Nyungwe by midday, check in to your lodge for lunch. The afternoon is reserved for a staggering outing of the Nyungwe Canopy Walk. Suspended high above the forest, this canopy bridge stretches 160 meters along, offering an unmatched view of the vast forest canopy and the misty hills beyond. Birds, butterflies, and possibly monkeys at play in treetop antics will fill your eyes.

Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation, appreciating the sounds of the forest.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking return to Kigali.

You will be woken before dawn so an early breakfast can be had before heading for a gorilla tracking briefing at the park headquarters. Thereafter, it is into the forest with rangers while listening to the distant pant-hoots of chimpanzees as the forest bursts into birdsong. After finding the chimpanzees, peaceful one hour is spent watching the fascinating displays of grooming, feeding, and play, which will forever be etched in one’s memory.

After your tracking, you will be served a nice lunch, and if time permits, you may drive to the Gisakura Tea Plantation, where you will have a brief walk through the emerald tea fields and receive a short demonstration on tea processing in Rwanda. Later, you will be driven back to Kigali at nightfall with unforgettable memories of Rwanda’s rainforest beauty.
