Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali-City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
On arriving at Kigali International Airport, your safari guide will greet you. If your arrival happens early enough, you could proceed along to a Kigali city tour before heading up north to the gorilla highlands. The Kigali tour normally includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, honoring the victims of the 1994 genocide and shedding light on Rwanda’s path toward reconciliation and resilience. You can also spend time at local markets, art centers, and the Presidential Palace Museum.
After lunch in Kigali, take an excellent 2- to 3-hour drive to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. The road trip is spectacular, with an abundance of panoramic views of terraced hills, scattered villages, and silky landscapes. Upon reaching the lodge, check in, relax, get dinner, and wind down for the gorilla trek scheduled for the following day.

Accommodation: Bisate Lodge / Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel / Kinigi Guest House (depending on preference)
Day 2: Gorilla-tracking at Volcanoes National Park

Arguably the main attraction for any traveler on this tour, the gorilla trek can be very mesmerizing. After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters at Kinigi where park rangers will give you a briefing on rules for trekking and you will be assigned to a group of gorillas to trek. Depending on the situation of the gorilla group, the trekking can be as short as 2 hours or as long as 6 hours. During the trekking, you may pass through dense bamboo thickets, clearings, or steep volcanic slopes.
What follows after is a surreal moment. You get to spend one full hour with gorillas as they behave normally around you while listening to their calls and watching them feed and groom each other. There are very few people that share this experience at once, thereby creating memories for a lifetime.
After the trek, there is lunch at the lodge and a time for some excellent relaxation. Otherwise, you may spend half a day visiting the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, where ex-poachers narrate their tales while demonstrating traditional Rwandan culture through dance, music, and crafts.

After breakfast and before the optional activity, the return to Kigali would commence. Time permitting, you may want to visit local craft shops for souvenirs or get a chance to dine one last time in the city.
