Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Rwanda Primate Tour
Day1: Arrival at Kigali-Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your tour guide will warmly welcome you and brief you about the safari. You may opt to take a short Kigali city tour depending on your time of arrival, visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets, etc.
By all means, head east from Kigali for a scenic road trip to the Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda’s southwest. On the way, behold all of the expansive views of the countryside with gently rolling hills, tea plantations, and charmful small villages. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge at Nyungwe.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trek
Rise early for a compelling chimpanzee trekking. At the park headquarters, you shall get a briefing. Afterward, it will be time to enter the forest with rangers and guides in tow. While hiking through the thick rainforest, listen to the calls of various birds and the rustling of primates in the trees.
Day 2: The Journey in Search of Chimpanzees
The guiding principle is to look for chimpanzees and spend an hour of close observation-watching them swing from tree to tree, feed, groom each other, and perform unusual behaviors-that will be an educational and emotional encounter as one witnesses how close to human they are. Later, in the afternoon, one may choose to undertake the canopy walk from the birds-eye perspective of the forest or enjoy a leisure nature walk. Overnight stay will be at the lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After having breakfast, get ready to check out and start driving north to the Volcanoes National Park, home to the mountain gorillas. The trip takes you through the beautiful countryside of Rwanda, with terraced hills, rural communities, and scenic valleys. Enter Musanze, the gateway town to Volcanoes National Park, late in the afternoon, and then relax at your lodge as you prepare for the eagerly awaited gorilla trek.
Day 4: Go Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

This is the highlight of the 5 Days Rwanda Primates Tour. After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and the allocation of trekking groups. Going in with your guide and rangers to the forest will mean tracking a specific gorilla family.
Depending on where the gorillas are actually situated, the trekking may last from 2 to 6 hours, and the actual encounter is something you will never forget. Watch them eat, play, and socialize in their natural habitats. They shall be with you for the hour, which is an intriguing and soulstirring experience. In the later afternoon, you could also go to visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural insight into Rwandan traditions. Return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Day 5: Golden Monkey | Transfer to Kigali & Departure
Day Five sees another adventure with an incredible primate encounter—golden monkey trekking. These endangered monkeys are fun-loving and splendiferously adorned with golden-orange fur. They are cruising through the bamboo forest while assembling your adrenaline rush. You will enjoy watching them leap from branch to branch. After trekking, you will drive back to Kigali for some last-minute shopping for crafts and souvenirs.
