The Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park.
The adventure begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. Meeting your safari guide, you depart for a city tour through the clean streets of Kigali with visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and local craft markets. In the afternoon, you drive eastwards to Akagera National Park, home to the Big Five. Upon arrival, settle in your lodge overlooking the savannah and have dinner by the ambience of the wild sounds of the Rwandan wind.

Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Safari on Lake Ihema
Awaken early for a morning game drive past the rolling plains of Akagera. Stand in awe as the sun rises beyond acacia-speckled landscapes dotted with giraffes, zebras, elephants, antelopes, and perhaps lions or leopards. After a sumptuous lunch, engage in a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, spot hippos and crocodiles, and many diverse birds such as African fish eagles and kingfishers.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Leaving early after a hearty breakfast, you will drive southwest to Nyungwe with a scenic route through the hilly countryside of Rwanda, across tea plantations and through lovely local towns. The arrival will be in the evening, amidst the serene ambience of the rainforest.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
The early hours are for Nyungwe Forest to be explored for an exciting chimpanzee trek. Listen to their calls as they echo through the canopy and witness them swinging through the trees in lively behavior. After lunch, take the thrill of the Nyungwe Canopy Walk – a bridge suspended 50 meters above the forest, providing panoramic views, and a unique bird’s-eye perspective of an ancient forest.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Another breathtaking drive into Volcanoes National Park would pass the sparkling-shining shore of Lake Kivu and green terraced hills. You would reach your lodge near the park, with the majestic Virunga Volcanoes as a backdrop. A peaceful evening should ensue with a warm dinner from Rwanda.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali
This is the focal point of your Rwandan Safari. After an early breakfast, you will have the briefing at the park headquarters, after which you head into the misty forest for gorilla trekking. The trekking duration ranges from 2 to 6 hours, but all those hours are worth it when you finally come face to-face with a gorilla family in their natural habitat. Observing them interact, feed, and play is a spiritual experience in itself.
Post-trek, have lunch and drive back to Kigali to conclude your remarkable 6-day Rwandan expedition.
